Kentucky 2010 Eleventh Annual Safety Schools Data Project

Kentucky's total public school population for 2009-2010 was 644,963. Of that total, 40,721 students (6.32%) committed an offence that resulted in an out-of-school suspension or an expulsion (with or without services). Less serious disciplinary responses (e.g., parent conferences, detentions, in-school suspensions) are not reported to the Kentucky Department of Education and are not reflected in this report.

Disciplinary Actions For Law Violations In Kentucky Schools

At the beginning of this reporting process in 1998, the Kentucky Department of Education adopted the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) From as a format for reporting Law Violations on school grounds or at school-related activities. Under this system, Part I crimes involve an illegal act directed against a person or property and are generally considered to be more serious offenses. Part II Law Violations may result in an arrest, but are considered less serious.
